The morning comes–every day the morning comes–Great is His faithfulness. His mercies are new every morning–and every day the morning comes.
As the night brings rest to the tender grass and newly budding trees-rest from the strong wind-rest from the soaking rains–rest from the sun’s bright rays–rest is a gift given. As the sun falls down to begin the night–we are given rest. We can lay down the mind and tuck in our thoughts and cares of the day – our memories are covered in the warmth of rest–there are no choices to make. All struggle is laid on a pillow. Rest.
Without rest we wither-the waves roll and we are not anchored. We are lost in the storm. We were created to have rest. The world seemingly hums on-we rely on flesh without the healing of rest. How can we do that which we were not created to do? To continue the normal without rest? The mind is wound tight and springs too fast. Emotions are full and decisions pour over–too full. Rest.
2 Corinthians 12:9
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
You cannot work for your rest. It is a gift-taken for granted-thinking we deserve such a thing. Rest is the ceasing from work. A calm and a quiet. Even in music-as the rest provides a stop in tone; a calm happens, a breath is taken, all motion stops–rest–then– the music can carry on.
Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift. Rest. For the weary-for the storms-for the cares of this world–a gift. To lay the head down and the rest is given. Heavy hearts are lightened. Fears disappear with the morning light. Rest.
We are promised renewal day by day (2 Cor 4:16). Renewal of our minds, our hearts, our souls and our bodies. Strength-hope-and courage. The noise stops and there is quiet. Rest.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
